Sunrise Optimist Club Annual Events
Hot Shot Basketball Tournament |
A basketball competition for boys and Girls grades 4-9 in the Freehold area. This is a shoot around competition where kids are matched up by grade grouping. The Kids have two one minute sessions to shoot baskets. The event is normally held during the winter of each year at the YMCA of Western Monmouth County. Peter Saker Open Golf Tornament |
This is a charity golf event held each summer. The Proceeds of this event go to benefit Camp Qualty New Jersey, a program for children with cancer. Camp Quality provides a free week long camping experience and year round support program for children with cancer ages 5-17. |
Essay Contest |
High School students under the age of 18 from all over North America write short essays which are judged at local and district competitions. Winners receive awards and scholarships. |
Oratorical Contest |
The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters under the age of 16 the chance to speak to an audience, which are judged at the local and district levels. |
Scholarships |
Each year the Sunrise Optimist club awards several scholarships of up to $5,000 to High School seniors in the Freehold area. |
